Do public sentiments still exist that teaching is somewhat an amateurish endeavor?

  1. No question. i think many believe what we do is easy and just a form of day care. Cheaper than day care in many regards.

  2. Troutman is right...to many people, public education is simply a place where their kid can be watched for 7 hours allowing the parents the opportunity to work. Most parents do not worry as much about education as they do supervision...especially as they get older

  3. Many go through school, see the finished product or what is presented to them from the teacher, then go out into other areas of workforce. Many do not know any of the behind the scenes efforts that go into it. They just see it as three months off in the summer, which is not three months anymore. There is not the behind the scenes work of weekends, working after hours, not just 8-3:30 Monday-Friday.

  4. Is it because teaching is part time?

  5. That could be the case Mr. Pauk, but as we discussed today also, that change to longer or year around is tough to get the backing and support. I am not sure what is the best way to get more pay either.
