Teachers who question administrators "carry little children with them into rebellion...what we need in Chicago is a set of teachers who will either work in harmony with the board of education or else get on the outside and stay there. Insurrectionists are not exactly fit guides for the young".
In many ways, aren't teachers still expected to adhere to this?
Hmm. Good questions about teacher's leading "conservative revolutions," meaning in a broader context the desire for educators to teach children to challenge conventional knowledge without they themselves calling into question the many issues in the education industry.
ReplyDeleteAt times it does feel like a conflict between teachers and administration and to question administration puts one on the wrong side. High schoolers are at a stage where they question authority often and I think perhaps that high school teachers may relate to this idea more although as I have never taught elementary grades I do not know if my above statement is correct.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you on this. It is hard to speak up about something if you have the fear of being wrong in the eyes of the administration. There is too often a fine line teachers have to walk in many daily situations.
