Did unions of the past attract a more radical, more confrontational teacher than we see today?

  1. Teachers were fighting for improvements. Many are complacent now. At least here, I can not speak for urban areas.

  2. Are teachers more worried about losing their jobs than before? That is the question.

  3. I agree with Troutman in that they had to fight to get a starting place. There was more improvements that needed to be made. Teachers at times, especially in the first 2-3 years at a district, they are more worried about losing their jobs than before.

  4. I think in the past unions attracted more radicals, but I don't think it's true today.
